As Miss Colombia was waving to the crowd after taking her crown and sash at the Miss Universe Pageant Sunday night, host Steve Harvey returned to the stage moments later to make a startling announcing. “I have to apologize,” said Harvey as he told the audience at Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino that the “first runner up” was Miss Colombia. Moments before he announced her as the winner instead of Miss Philippines.
Miss Colombia stood stone-faced as her crown was removed and given to Miss Philippines. On stage, Harvey said he took full blame for the mistake but showed cameras the cue card that had Miss Colombia as first runner-up and Miss USA as second runner-up. There was no mention of Miss Philippines, which led to Harvey’s confusion.
Miss Philippines covered her mouth in what appeared to be disbelief as the crowd then applauded her win. Watch video.
